Sound Walk with MeeNa Ko- Week 2

Password : ITP

I don’t have much experience with Unity but my brilliant partner MeeNa took charge, and also very patiently ran me through the basics. The software as a whole can be overwhelming but I see the value in learning it in order to execute experiential concepts that require that amount of mobility.

Our central concept is to toy with the idea of memory and sound. The idea was to depict different kinds of sounds that can trigger memory and how our thoughts can sometimes have almost a physical presence in our minds. We have visually represented individual memories as blocks so as to give form to abstract ideas. As the individual navigates through the pathway or his own mind, a variety of sonic experiences integrate with blocks levitating above him that show different memories. The boxes serve as volumetric substitutes to thought processes that many a times weigh on a person.

A text is inscribed on each block that represents an overwhelming feeling or thought that the user is experiencing. The end visual is all the blocks sort of cascading towards the individual, depicting that they feel overwhelmed by the thousand different trajectories taken by their mind. All the individual sounds are amalgamated together in the final bit as the blocks fall down, they depict a person who is consumed by their own thoughts. The intangibles in our lives are often too hard to account for and the idea was to add dimensionality to those feelings. Very subtle links exist between memory, mind, body and sound and we wanted to thread them together experientially.
